24 Globes

24 Globes is a full rotation of the world in fifteen-degree increments beginning at the top left with the prime meridian and returning to the prime meridian at the bottom right. Each image uses topographic data available in the public domain that has been modified to enhance coastlines, inland lakes and rivers. The colour transition in the work references the change in the colour of the sky as it might appear over a full 24-hour period. As a sequence of animated stills, 24 Globes is a representation of the world free from the distortion typically found in the planar projections of flat maps and uses our understanding of how water reflects light to create a surface in which to depict a painted sample of the full spectrum of sunlight.
